Adult Sensory Esotropia
Sage had an inward turning of her right eye for as long as she could remember. Unfortunately, that eye turn led to vision loss. As an adult, Sage decided she had had enough. While surgery could not restore vision to her right eye, it could improve the position of the eye.
The before-and-after photographs show a significant improvement in alignment following strabismus surgery. The eyes are much straighter just one month after surgery. Patients with longstanding vision loss in one eye are different from those with normal vision in both eyes. Because the underlying vision loss persists, the eye has a greater tendency to drift (again) over time. For this reason, some patients may benefit from additional surgery in the future to maintain alignment.
Even so, adult strabismus surgery is a safe and effective way to improve eye position, appearance, self-confidence, and quality of life for many people who have lived with eye misalignment for years.
Patient Safety Note: Every patient is different. Surgical results vary based on eye alignment, vision, healing characteristics, and other individual factors. Photographs represent one patient's outcome and do not guarantee similar results for others.
